A GOOD WORD IS CHARITY ..
The Sahih Hadith,
"A good word is charity,"
(Arabic: وَالْكَلِمَةُ الطَّيِّبَةُ صَدَقَةٌ)
highlights that acts of kindness in speech are spiritually equivalent to giving wealth.
This teaching is documented in several authentic collections, most notably Sahih al-Bukhari 2989 and Sahih Muslim 1009.
Core Teachings from the Hadith
Daily Obligation:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) taught that charity is due upon every joint of a person's body for every day the sun rises.
Non-Monetary Charity:
For those who cannot afford financial alms, "a good word" serves as a way to fulfill this daily charitable obligation.
Protection from Hellfire:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) advised: "Protect yourselves from the Fire, even if with half a date, and he who does not find it, then with a good word"
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6540).
Other Forms of Non-Financial Charity
According to this and related narrations in the 40 Hadith of Imam an-Nawawi, other simple daily acts of charity include:
Reconciliation:
Administering justice or making peace between two people.
