JIHAD NAFS - Surah Ash-Shams (91:7-9)

 

JIHAD NAFS .. 

FIGHT THE EVIL WITHIN YOURSELF ..

 By the soul and (by) Him who made it perfect, and then inspired it to understand what is wrong and what is right for it. Truly is successful the one who purifies (his soul). 

(Holy Qur'an, 91: 7-9)

These verses from Surah Ash-Shams (91:7-9) highlight the creation of the human soul, its inherent capacity for both good and evil, and the ultimate importance of self-purification.

 They emphasize that success belongs to those who nurture their faith and righteousness.

A breakdown of these three verses reveals their deep spiritual meaning:

Ayat 7 (91:7):

 Wa nafsin wa maa sawwaahaa

 - "By the soul and the One who proportioned (perfected) it." 

Allah swears by the human soul, highlighting His perfect creation and design of human nature.

Ayat 8 (91:8):

 Fa alhamaha fujooraha wa taqwaaha 

- "And He inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness." 

Allah has endowed humanity with the conscience and intellect to distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil.

Ayat 9 (91:9):

 Qad aflaha man zakkaaha

 - "He has succeeded who purifies it." 

True success and prosperity in this life and the hereafter belong to the one who cleanses their soul through obedience, good deeds, and avoiding sin.
