AL MUTTAQUN .. QS ALI IMRAN 3:17 ..

[Surah Ali Imran] Characteristics of al-Muttaqun
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says:

❛[𝗔𝗹-𝗠𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲] 𝗮𝘀-𝗦𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 (𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁),
 𝗮𝘀-𝗦𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗾𝗲𝗲𝗻 (𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗳𝘂𝗹),
𝗮𝗹-𝗤𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗻 (𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗵),
𝗮𝗹-𝗠𝘂𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗾𝗲𝗲𝗻 (𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗵), 𝗮𝗻𝗱
𝗮𝗹-𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗵𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗹-𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿 (𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘄𝗻).❜

In this aayah, Allah gives us some characteristics of al-Muttaqun, the people who have taqwa:

🌿 1. {𝗔𝘀-𝗦𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻} — They have sabr, they are patient. In our Deen, there are 3 degrees of patience: Patient in obeying Allah, patient in refraining from what He has prohibited, and patient when they are tested. This is the first characteristic Allah mentions, emphasising how sabr is important to developing taqwa.

🌿 2. {𝗔𝘀-𝗦𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗾𝗲𝗲𝗻} — They are truthful, not only in speech, but in their imaan and their actions. They do not lie, nor are they a hypocrite.

🌿 3. {𝗔𝗹-𝗤𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗻} — They are sincerely obedient in worshipping Allah, and they strive to maintain khushoo in their ibaadat.

🌿 4. {𝗔𝗹-𝗠𝘂𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗾𝗲𝗲𝗻} — They spend in the way of Allah — both obligatory (eg. zakah) and voluntary (eg. charity) deeds.

🌿 5. {𝗔𝗹-𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗵𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗹-𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿} — They seek Allah’s forgiveness during al-ashar, i.e. predawn, specifically the time during sahoor (predawn).

So al-Muttaqun are those who focus on making sincere istighfar just before dawn When we look at the meaning of this aayah, we’ll notice how relevant these points are in Ramadan. All these qualities can be developed and nourished in this blessed month more than ever.

See how we’re exercising patience through fasting, increasing our good deeds in all types of ibaadat and giving charity more than any other month, literally waking up to have our suhoor which is a time when we also ask for Allah’s forgiveness — overall, just trying to become a better person.

It’s beautiful how this all connects together with the following aayah:

🌺 ❛𝗢 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲! 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀-𝗦𝗮𝘂𝗺 (𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴) 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗯𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝘀𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗹-𝗠𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗻.❜
